Terms of service

1. The service

Moat Check researches the companies working on a startup idea, names the one best placed to copy it, and scores its defensibility across ten tests. It also hosts a public library of analyses that founders choose to publish.

2. A research aid, not advice

Analyses are produced with AI and live web research. They can be incomplete or wrong: a competitor may be missed, a source misread, or a score not fit your situation. Moat Check is not investment, legal, financial or business advice. Check important conclusions with your own research, customers and advisers before you rely on them.

3. Accounts

You need an account for most features. Keep your sign-in details safe and tell us if you think someone else has used your account. You must be at least 16. One person, one account: do not create accounts to get extra free analyses.

4. Acceptable use

Do not use Moat Check to:

• submit content that is illegal, harmful, hateful, or that you have no right to share;
• post false or misleading competitors, outcomes or reviews in the library;
• scrape the service, overload it, get around usage limits, or interfere with its security;
• resell analyses as a service without our written permission.

We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules.

5. Your content

You keep ownership of the ideas you submit. You give us permission to process them to provide the service. When you publish an analysis, or add competitors and outcomes to the library, you also let us display, store and share that content publicly on Moat Check, and use it as leads for future analyses of similar ideas. You can unpublish your analyses at any time. Only submit ideas you are comfortable sharing with the providers listed in our privacy policy.

6. Payments

• Prices are shown on the pricing page in US dollars. Tax is added at checkout where it applies.
• Polar is our merchant of record. Polar sells to you and handles payment, tax and invoices, under its own terms.
• Pack credits do not expire. Free monthly analyses reset each month and do not carry over.
• The Investor plan renews each month until you cancel. If you cancel, it stays active until the end of the period you paid for. A free trial is charged at its end unless you cancel before then.
• If an analysis fails, it is not counted, and the analysis is returned to your balance automatically.
• For billing problems or refund requests, email hello@checkmymoat.com. Refunds are issued through Polar.

7. Availability and changes

We work to keep Moat Check running, but we do not promise it will always be available or error-free. We may change or stop features. If we stop a paid feature, we will refund unused prepaid amounts.

8. Liability

The service is provided “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for decisions you make based on an analysis. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before it. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

9. Ending your use

You can stop using Moat Check at any time and ask us to delete your account. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms.

10. Law and changes to these terms

These terms are governed by the laws of Rwanda. If we change them in a meaningful way, we will update the date above and, for significant changes, let account holders know before they take effect.
