IdeaProof Alternative: A Dedicated Defensibility Check
Updated 21 October 2026
IdeaProof and Moat Check both start from the same place: you describe an idea and an AI researches it. After that they go in different directions. IdeaProof is a broad validation and launch kit that can take you from a viability score to a business plan, brand identity and ad creatives. Moat Check does one narrower job: it tells you who is already in your market, who is most likely to copy you, and how defensible the idea is.
This comparison uses each product's public pages as of October 2026.
The short version
- Choose IdeaProof if you want a GO or NO-GO viability verdict and then want the same tool to generate market analysis, a business plan, branding and marketing assets.
- Choose Moat Check if your main worry is competition and you want a dedicated, evidence-backed defensibility score with a named copycat.
What IdeaProof does
According to its homepage, IdeaProof runs a validation in about two minutes using several AI models, including Claude, GPT and Gemini, and produces "a 100-point viability score" with "green flags, risk flags and a clear GO / NO-GO verdict." It says it draws on signals from sources such as Reddit, Product Hunt, G2 and the App Store, and states that "every claim links back to its source." It also matches ideas against what it calls a failure atlas of more than 1,000 startup post-mortems.
Validation is the first step of a larger kit. IdeaProof lists generators for market analysis (TAM, SAM and SOM with a competitor matrix), business plans, brand strategy, visual identity, a marketing suite and pitch decks.
Its published scoring methodology is unusually transparent. The viability score weights criteria such as problem-solution fit (17%), value proposition (15%), competition level (14%) and timing (12%). Defensibility is one criterion at 8%, and the page notes that "defensibility is part of the formula but is not stored as a separate score in most reports."
Pricing, per the IdeaProof pricing page, is one-time credit packs with no subscription:
- Starter: 19.99 euros for 150 credits
- Builder: 49.99 euros for 1,400 credits
- Founder: 99.99 euros for 4,500 credits
New accounts get 40 free credits with no card, and an idea validation costs 40 credits. Market analysis costs 50 credits, a business plan 100 and the marketing suite 250.
A competing validator, Preuve AI, published a critical review questioning some of IdeaProof's source counts and its earlier accuracy claim. IdeaProof now describes that figure as an internal, uncertified match rate and positions its score as "decision support, not a prediction." Read both with the usual caution you would apply to any vendor writing about a rival, including this page.
What Moat Check does
You describe the idea in a sentence or two. In about a minute you get:
- Live competitor research with links, shown only when they came directly from the search results.
- The company most likely to copy you, why it is well placed, and how fast it could move.
- A moat score out of 100 from ten tests: network effect, winnable starting market, owned customer relationship, competitive resilience, proprietary data, data flywheel, switching costs, distribution advantage, platform independence and value beyond the AI model. Each test is pass (10), partial (5) or fail (0) with evidence. See the methodology.
- One next move that would most strengthen the moat.
Your first analysis is free without signing up. A free account adds 5 bonus analyses, then 3 a month. Credit packs start at $9 for 5 analyses, and the Investor plan is $99 a month for 150 analyses. Details are on the pricing page.

Where IdeaProof is stronger
- Breadth. If you want a business plan, logo, brand system and ad creatives from the same tool, IdeaProof does that and Moat Check does not.
- Market sizing. IdeaProof produces TAM, SAM and SOM estimates. Moat Check does not size markets.
- Failure patterns. Matching an idea against a library of post-mortems is a useful lens Moat Check does not offer.
- Published weights. IdeaProof publishes its criteria weights and average scores, which helps you interpret a result.
Where Moat Check is stronger
- Depth on defensibility. In IdeaProof, defensibility is 8% of the score. In Moat Check, it is the whole score, broken into ten separate tests you can read and argue with.
- A named threat. Moat Check names the single company best placed to copy you and estimates how quickly.
- Price per check in US dollars. A Moat Check pack is $9 for 5 analyses. IdeaProof's entry pack is 19.99 euros, and its free credits cover one validation.
- Founder-improved research. Published analyses in the idea library collect competitors that other founders add and confirm, and those feed future analyses of similar ideas.
When to choose IdeaProof
- You want one tool to carry you from a viability check to a business plan and launch assets.
- You need market sizing for a deck or application.
- You want a broad GO or NO-GO read across many criteria rather than a deep look at one.
When to choose Moat Check
- You already believe there is demand and your real question is whether a funded rival could take it.
- You want to see the specific companies in the space and open their links yourself.
- You are comparing several ideas and want them scored on the same defensibility rubric.
- You are an angel or accelerator screening pitches for defensibility.
Using both
These tools fit together. A sensible order is to use Moat Check first to see whether the idea can be defended, then use a broader kit like IdeaProof to build out the plan if it can. A great business plan for an idea that an incumbent can ship as a feature next quarter is not worth much.
Moat Check has limits too. It relies on public information, it can miss private competitors or very recent launches, and it does not judge team, execution or timing. Treat its score as a structured starting point and validate with customers.
